Cherokee County has scheduled two public hearings this week on a tentatively adopted millage rate that will increase property taxes by 4.88 percent.

The hearings are set to begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, and 6 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Cherokee County Administration Building and Conference Center, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton.

A tentative increase of 0.271 mils will result in a millage rate of 5.825. This translates into an additional $20.33 in taxes for a home with a fair market value of $200,000, and $18.97 in new taxes for a non-homestead property with a fair market value of $175,000, according to the county.
