Parents of Cherokee County school children can expect to receive a questionnaire this week, asking if they would prefer sending their youngsters back to school in person Aug. 3, or continue online learning at home.

“We’re not asking parents to vote on a plan, as I will be making my decision based on what’s in the best interest of our students, the state of public health in our community, and any mandates issued by the state or federal government,” schools Superintendent Brian Hightower said at a recent School Board meeting.

“Parents’ input through this questionnaire is critically important to ensure we have the staff and resources in place to meet students’ needs.”

Hightower said he remains committed to announcing an official reopening plan in July.

In a related matter, Hightower said year-round school district staff, who have been working remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will begin returning to their work sites Monday. This is the first phase of employees returning, with details coming soon for the others.
