The Cherokee County School District announced two new college scholarships of $5,000 each to graduating seniors of Cherokee and Creekview high schools.

The Jason T. Dickerson Family Foundation will award scholarships to one graduate from each school. To be eligible, a student must have at least a 2.0 GPA and plan to pursue one of the following majors at a two- or four-year Georgia institution: education, agriculture, veterinary medicine, religion or theology.

Financial need also will be considered.

According to its Facebook page, the Dickerson Family Foundation "seeks to improve the quality of life for the veterans, youth, elderly, domesticated animals and natural wildlife — particularly those in need or distress — that are located in Cherokee, Bartow and Pickens County, Ga."
