The Clark Creek Elementary School STEM Academy has become the first in Cherokee County to earn statewide science, technology, engineering and math certification which district officials bill as a history-making move.

The award came after a state STEM certification team visited the school this week. State officials evaluated the campus in 15 different areas, including teacher collaboration, technology integration and math and science instruction.

Clark Creek is one of only 11 elementary schools in the state to earn the designation.
