Cherokee County public safety officials will launch codeRED on May 1.
The citizen notification system used by more than 3,000 agencies nationwide to notify residents of time-sensitive general and emergency notifications includes alerts for missing children or endangered adults, road closures due to accidents and evacuation notices. The system will also pass along National Weather Service warnings specific to Cherokee County.
