The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has awarded a $2.99 million construction services contract to resurface six county-maintained roads entailing about 12.4 miles of pavement.

C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. Inc. submitted the lowest of six bids for the work, according to a staff report to commissioners.

Most of the work is likely to be completed in the summer months of June to September, staff said. The roads to be resurfaced are Lower Birmingham Road, 2.57 miles, Batesville Road to the Fulton County line; Arnold Mill Road, 3.54 miles, Barnes Road to the Woodstock city limits; and Barnes Road, 1.01 miles, Trickum to Arnold Mill roads.

Also, Ridge Road, 3.49 miles, Marietta Highway to Bells Ferry Road; Birmingham Road, 1.1 miles, Ga. 372 to Holbrook Campground Road; and Old Orange Mill Road, 0.67 miles, Owens Store Road to the culvert crossing.

The county will use a $2.49 million Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation to cover most of the cost, staff said. Information: https://bit.ly/2XoFtKl
