Cherokee County OKs $1.25M plan for federal grant spending

Scholarships for Cherokee County youths attending a YMCA summer camp, after-school transportation for children participating in Boys & Girls Club programs, and a new home for the Cherokee Historical Society are among the initiatives in line for $1.25 million in Community Development Block Grant monies.

The Cherokee Board of Commissioners approved a consolidated plan and grant application for the federal program, with funding for public services and public facilities, $183,232 for public services, $886,039 for public facilities, and $185,613 for administrative costs.

Besides the “Y” camp and Boy & Girls Club transportation, other public services to be funded are MUST Ministries, case managers and a new vehicle; Child Advocacy Center of Cherokee County, bilingual therapists; Bethesda Community Clinic, registered nurses; and the Boys & Girls Club, a teen workforce development program.

Besides the Historical Society, other funded public facilities are Habitat for Humanity, to buy seven to nine house lots; MUST Ministries, to acquire supportive rental housing; and Cherokee County, for emergency home repairs. Information: https://bit.ly/2WOQYLS
