Cherokee County has agreed to be one of two Georgia sites hosting the USA Women’s Fastpitch Softball Team, which will be touring the country this spring and playing exhibition games in the lead-up to the 2020 Olympics.
“USA Softball of Georgia bid on and was awarded two dates for the ‘Stand Beside Her Tour,’” according to a staff report to county commissioners. “Because of Cherokee County’s reputation for successful events and our working relationship with USA Softball of Georgia, we have been offered the opportunity to host one of these dates.”
Commissioners approved a $60,000 budget amendment to host the team on Sunday, April 5, at the Twin Creeks Softball Complex in Woodstock.
Northside Hospital has agreed to donate $50,000 to sponsor the event, and the county expects to receive at least $10,000 in revenues from ticket sales, County Manager Jerry Cooper told commissioners. The budget amendment accounts for Cherokee Recreation & Parks’ costs and anticipated revenues.
