An historic downtown Canton building could soon be off the market, as the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved a sales agreement with Sue Ann Taylor and her company Jones Mercantile LLC to buy the Jones Building for $1,768,000.

County Manager Jerry Cooper said plans were to create a company providing movie industry jobs that would design video games for various big-screen motion pictures. Officials have said up to 300 jobs could be created.

Cooper told commissioners that Taylor indicated she wanted to close the deal before March 17. If nothing’s finalized in 60 days, the county will look at other options.

The building formerly housed county administrative offices but has been vacant since 2008.
