The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has awarded three contracts exceeding $1 million total to construct a new roundabout near Woodstock and design improvements for two substandard roads at the west and north ends of the county.
The largest contract, of $962,858, went to Bartow Paving Co. Inc. to build a roundabout at Woodstock Road and Victory Drive. The project is expected to take about nine months to complete.
Separately, commissioners awarded a $62,000 contract to Southeastern Engineering Inc. to design improvements for Rhine Road. Rhine begins at Ga. 20 and continues south for about 1 mile to Upper Sweetwater Trail. It is to be brought up to current standards for a roadway 20 feet wide, with a design speed of 25 mph, staff said in a report to commissioners.
The county also awarded $34,739 contract to Calco Engineering LLC to design improvements for Huey Barnes Lane. A dead-end road, Huey Barnes starts at Lower Burris Road and runs for about 0.4 miles. Calco will design an 18-foot-wide road with a design speed of 25 mph, staff said.
