The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners has assigned $22,800 in design engineering work to Pond & Co. for a new traffic signal at Hickory Flat Highway (Ga. 140) and Sugar Pike Road.

Pond recently completed a Ga. 140 corridor study for the county that found the intersection warranted a signal, staff said in a report to commissioners.

Commissioners approved a second amendment to their agreement with Pond to have the consultant prepare a traffic signal warrant analysis report and design plan, both to be submitted for approval to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

“Once a traffic signal permit is issued to the county by GDOT, the traffic signal will be bid for construction,” staff said.
