Cherokee County commissioners have approved a request by residents of the Victoria Cottages subdivision to abandon a street that was platted but never built.

The county is abandoning the right-of-way for Birch Lane. The street was supposed to run between Little Victoria Road and North Little Victoria Road along Allatoona Lake in the unincorporated county west of Woodstock.

“Though it shows on the county records, it has never been cut in and has never been maintained by the county,” one resident, Robin Burruss, said in an email to the county.

Commissioners approved a resolution abandoning the street, saying there exists “no substantial public purpose” in retaining it, and allowing the land to be conveyed to adjoining property owners.
