The lottery to select students for Cherokee County's first charter school will be held Saturday at the former American Heritage Academy on Sixes Road.

Sandy Castro, a spokeswoman for Charter Schools USA, which will help run Cherokee Charter Academy, said the lottery will begin at 9 a.m. and that parents of the 2,400 students who have applied for the 710 available slots in the kindergarten to 7th grade school have been notified.

The lottery will proceed by grade level, with K and 1st grade set for 9 a.m., 2nd and 3rd grades at 10 a.m., 4th and 5th grades at 11 a.m., and 6th and 7th grades beginning at noon.
