Reece Road in southeast Cherokee County may soon get five speed humps, requested by residents in a petition to the county.

The Cherokee Board of Commissioners responded affirmatively to the residents’ request after 91 percent of them requested the humps, at 1492, 1380, 1363, 1341 and 1322 Reece Road.

Reece connects Mountain Road and Hickory Flat Highway. Residents have been working with the county Engineering Department on the issue.

There are 36 home lots along the street, and 34 homeowners signed the petition requesting the humps. At least 90 percent of the residents needed to approve the request before the county could conduct a speed study as part of its Neighborhood Traffic Control Program, staff said.
