Criminal charges have been filed against the 17-year-old Gwinnett girl behind the wheel during a June crash that sent her and three other teens to the hospital.
She was speeding and should not have had the other passengers in her car, police said.
Gwinnett County police announced Wednesday the charges against Ashlyn Boyd, who was driving a during the June 20 crash on Webb Gin House Road near Lawrenceville. Her Honda Civic was traveling "at a high rate of speed when [she] left the roadway, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree," Cpl. Deon Washington said in a news release.
Boyd was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected, Washington said. Three other passengers — two 16-year-olds and one 15-year-old — were wearing seatbelts but also taken to the hospital with significant injuries.
The crash happened around 10:30 p.m.
Boyd has been charged with two counts apiece of felony serious injury by vehicle and violation of driver's license restrictions. She was also charged with single counts of speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and seatbelt required, Washington said.
As of Thursday morning, Boyd had not been booked into the Gwinnett County jail.
