Traffic is shifting this week as work begins on replacing a key bridge on Ga. 9 near Rock Creek Park in Dawson County.

Georgia DOT officials say the temporary traffic signal that will handle traffic during construction will be turned on Thursday morning, as both directions of traffic shift to the northbound lane. The change to one lane will stay in place until the bridge is finished.

At the same time, overnight barrier installation and re-striping will happen this week. The project will replace a current 28-foot-wide bridge that dates from 1955 with a 40-foot-wide span.
