Chamblee Police Department Chief Kerry Thomas recently was honored by Zion Full Gospel Music Ministry and Congresswoman Lucy McBath (Ga., 6th District) with a Congressional Commendation, according to a press release.

“I was so excited to learn that constituents in Chamblee took it upon themselves to recognize Kerry Thomas for his service as the first African-American police chief of the city of Chamblee,” said Rep. Lucy McBath. “Even before he began his career in Georgia’s Sixth Congressional District, Chief Thomas had a distinguished career of service both as a police officer and as a United States Army veteran. Chamblee is lucky to have Chief Thomas, and I am so grateful for his dedication to keeping our community safe.”

Chief Thomas was appointed to lead the Chamblee Police Department by the City Manager in October 2018 and approved by the Mayor and Council in November 2018. Prior to coming to Chamblee, Chief Thomas had more than 30 years of experience on Savannah’s Police Department (SPD). His experience includes working patrol, being a certified forensic technician and latent examiner, criminal investigator, patrol sergeant, lieutenant, captain, major and assistant chief. Chief Thomas also served as the assistant chief of field operations for the SPD for two years. He reduced crime and established sound legal policy and procedures there. He joined the SPD in 1988 after previously serving three years in the United States Army.

Rep. McBath stated it was her honor to recognize Chief Thomas for his service, sacrifice and dedication to keeping the City of Chamblee safe.
