The city of Chamblee has appointmented Shawn Wood as public works director, according to a press release. Wood has more than 20 years’ experience in the public works field. He most recently was the Director of Public Works for the city of Dublin, Ga.
As director, Wood will oversee the development of a storm water maintenance program, management of the new SPLOST program for transportation, completion of the comprehensive transportation plan and continued improvement of the city’s beautification efforts. Wood also will be responsible for managing the administrative functions of the department, such as developing policies and procedures, formulating long-range plans and preparing the budget. Additionally, the he will ensure compliance with state and federal solid waste regulations.
Wood’s experience also includes serving as the compliance officer for City of Dublin Natural Gas, where he was responsible for the operator qualification program, inspection of new gas projects and the preliminary design of steel replacement plans, among other duties. He also was a project manager and Public Works consultant at Hofstadter & Associates, Inc. in Macon, where he performed site inspection and managed contracts, analyzed stormwater samples, prepared reports as required by NPDES and created infrastructure mapping and databases utilizing GIS/GPS network devices.
Wood is also the District 8 Director of the American Public Works Association, Georgia Chapter.
