The city of Chamblee was recognized by the non-profit Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA community by meeting four core standards of sound urban forestry management. It is the first year Chamblee has earned this national designation.

The four standards to become a Tree City USA community are: maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry and celebrating Arbor Day.

The Tree City USA Program began in 1976 and more than 3,400 communities across the US participate in the program, which is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees.
