Chamblee will hold a public hearing Thursday about a proposal to raise taxes in the area that was annexed Jan. 1.

The city tentatively adopted a millage rate of 7.87 for the area, which is the same rate for the rest of the city. Property owners in the annexed area currently pay no city property taxes. The tax due on a home with a fair market value of $225,000 would be about $472.

The hearing is at 6 p.m. at the Chamblee Civic Center, 3540 Broad St.
