The autopsy for a Cherokee County man found dead in a kiddie swimming pool will be Tuesday. But it could take several weeks before an exact cause of death is determined, police said.

Dominic Saverino Pedante, 54, was found Sunday morning in about 6 inches of water, just steps away from his vehicle, Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. Pedante had parked his car next to the swimming pool and may have tripped as he got out of the vehicle at his home in the Eagle Watch subdivision, Baker said.

The door to Pedante's vehicle was still open, leading authorities to suspect that he might have suffered some type of medical emergency that caused him to fall into the pool, Baker said.

Pedante's body was taken to the GBI crime lab for analysis. It could take several weeks for the results of toxicology tests, Baker said.

A man at the home declined to discuss Pedante's death when reached by phone Monday afternoon, citing the family's privacy.
