A carjacking suspect was shot and wounded by a Clayton County police officer late Sunday night.
Channel 2 Action News reported that the shooting happened about 11 p.m. when three suspects fled on foot after crashing a stolen Volkswagen sedan into a pickup truck that was parked along Brookstone Road.
“At some point during the foot pursuit, a male turned, produced a firearm and pointed it at the officer,” Clayton police Sgt. Kevin Hughes told Channel 2.
“The officer fired, striking the subject once,” Hughes said. The wounded suspect was taken to a local hospital, and is expected to recover, Channel 2 reported.
The other two suspects were still at large early Monday.
The GBI is investigating the incident, which was the second shooting in three days involving a Clayton County police officer.
Late Friday night, a man involved in a domestic dispute was shot and killed after he shot Officer Melvin Snell in the shoulder, Channel 2 reported. A second officer shot and killed the suspect, whose name has not been released.
Snell was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious but stable condition.
