Police investigated a Cobb County parking lot after someone spotted a car with the engine running and what appeared to be wires coming out of the hood.

Police and fire officials were called to a business complex on Townpark Drive in Kennesaw on Wednesday.

The car's owner told responders he accidentally left the car running and that the wires were preexisting damage.

Authorities say many incidents in the metro Atlanta area since the terrorist bombings in Brussels on Monday have been false alarms.

Police told Channel 2 Action news that they don't mind the false alarms and would prefer people to continue to call the police to report suspicious acitivity.

Experts say it is common after a large-scale attack for local police to further investigate suspicious situations.

"What we're going to see right now is a huge peak [in calls to authorities] because everyone is alert and watching," Brent Brown, a security expert, told Channel 2 Action News.

A suspicious package investigation at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport prompted officials to evacuate the north and south terminals on Wednesday, an airport spokesman said.
