No injuries were reported early Tuesday when a car slammed through the front wall of a DeKalb County condominium building, apparently after the driver fell asleep.

The incident happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. at the Park Lane Condominiums on Parklane Drive near Georgia Perimeter College.

DeKalb police Sgt. William E. Goggins told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the driver of the Toyota Corolla “reported that he fell asleep behind the wheel.”

“I don’t know if he was trying to park the vehicle and hit the gas instead of the brake and went through the living quarters there,” Goggins said.

He said the driver had taken the car without permission before the crash.

“The car belonged to a friend and he had access to the keys, and he basically took the vehicle while they were asleep.”

The condo was damaged to the point that the residents will likely have to move, Goggins said.

“I would not want to live there, like that, I know,” he said. “I’m just happy that nobody was hurt.”
