A 2-year-old girl was struck by a car in the driveway of an east Cobb County home and later died, police said.

Just before 10 a.m. Tuesday, a woman in a neighborhood on Greencastle Way backed out of her garage and struck the toddler with her silver 2005 Lexus RX330, Cobb police Officer Alicia Chilton said. The 2-year-old girl was in the garage behind the vehicle and the driver did not see her.

The child was flown from Pope High School to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver was not injured.

The incident is under investigation, but no charges are expected to be filed, Chilton said.
