Workers at a Smyrna hot dog restaurant say it was a miracle no one was killed when a car barreled into their building Wednesday.

The Smyrna restaurant was closed all day as workers cleaned up from the crash.

“I just heard the glass being broken before I saw the actual car, and I just jumped over here, and I just saw the car going through our business,” worker Anna Leal said.

Police aren’t sure exactly what the couple was doing inside the BMW in the moments before it jumped the curb and smashed into Smyrna’s Hot Dog Factory.

Leal says they’d just opened up for the lunch rush, and it was only by the grace of good timing that no one was killed.

“Usually it’s full with a line waiting, so I’m just thankful no one was here,” Leal said. “And then during the summer, we have a lot of kids, so I’m just thankful no children were here.”

Police arrested the passenger of the car on an outstanding traffic charge, but the driver was not charged.
