The Canton City Council is debating re-instituting downtown parking limit enforcement, after imposing a moratorium in December.
After enforcement and ticketing resumed in November following a months-long break, some merchants complained that two-hour limits primarily along Main and North streets were hampering customers. The council voted for an originally-planned 60-day moratorium and asked members Farris Yawn and Bill Grant to meet with merchants to hash out a solution.
Resulting recommendations presented at Thursday night’s meeting include making the two-hour limit parallel spots on North street eight-hour parking and putting a three-hour limit on spots on East Main past East Marietta Street. There would also be some limits as brief as 2o minutes, though.
Council members made no decision on the revised parking limit proposals or on a date for resuming enforcement.
