Canton city officials on Feb. 20 will formally open a new “inclusive” playground at Etowah River Park containing equipment accessible to special needs children.

The public is invited as the mayor and City Council members conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. at the park, 600 Brown Industrial Parkway. Officials also will thank the Resurgens Charitable Foundation for its support of the project.

The playground will be wheelchair-accessible, with ramps and a unitary rubbery surface; two ADA-compliant swings with safety harnesses for children with limited mobility; and “two-generation” swings that allow parents to swing with their youngsters.

There also will be a spinner for up to 10 children with side-loading for wheelchair access; a fully accessible “Rock N Ship,” and inclusive play panels with sign language and Braille lettering.
