The public access area at Hickory Log Creek Reservoir in Canton will be closed until further notice, as the water level of the lake is being lowered for maintenance.
Lowering the water level about six feet below full pool will allow maintenance on the gates at the dam, and at the public access area including the boat ramp, according to a city announcement.
"Upon completion of the work, water will be pumped from the Etowah River to refill the reservoir, provided conditions in the river allow for the withdrawal of water," the city said. Updates will be posted on social media and at the city website, http://www.cantonga.gov/
No reopening date was given, but when the reservoir was drained and public access, closed for similar maintenance in the fall of 2015, officials at the time said the process could take up to three months.
Hickory Log Creek Reservoir is a man-made, 411-acre body of water with about 15 miles of shoreline. The public access area is near Bluffs Parkway and Fate Conn Road. Information: https://bit.ly/2DP3Yqc
