Canton has announced the creation of a new, downtown entertainment district where people can consume alcoholic beverages on the street – provided the drinks are in plastic cups provided by the city, no larger than 16 ounces, and without a straw or stirrer.

The drink must be purchased from a business within the district, licensed to sell alcoholic beverages by the drink for consumption on the premises, according to revisions to the city’s alcohol ordinance approved recently by the City Council.

Consuming alcohol in public, and selling drinks for off-premises consumption, are allowed only from noon to midnight in the district.

The revised ordinance took effect March 13. To view it: https://bit.ly/2WzNZWY To view a map of the entertainment district: https://bit.ly/38Ka4EB
