Investigators believe a Canton man riding a dirt bike hit a tree limb, throwing him from the bike and killing him, the Cherokee County fire department said Monday.

Jeffery Helton, 44, died Sunday after wrecking his dirt bike in an unfinished subdivision, police and fire officials said.

Helton was found around 6 p.m. off Ellington Way, near Cumming Highway and Ga. 369, Lt. Jay Baker with the Sheriff’s Office said. Two women riding four-wheelers in the area saw Helton’s body and called 911.

“Evidence at the scene indicated that Helton’s accident occurred today,” Baker said late Sunday.

Firefighters used an all-terrain vehicle to reach Helton, who was pronounced dead the scene.

Investigators do not suspect foul play. An autopsy will be conducted at the GBI crime lab.
