The Canton City Council will consider a revised ordinance regulating construction noise at its meeting 6 p.m. Thursday night at Canton City Hall, 151 Elizabeth St., following a mayoral veto and the drafting of changes.

The ordinance went back to the drawing board after Mayor Gene Hobgood objected to a provision banning construction work on such city-recognized holidays as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Independence Day. Hobgood said he didn’t think the city had the right to tell people which holidays they could work.

The revised ordinance makes no mention of holidays, but sets times when both residential and non-residential construction is allowed, and bans all work on Sundays. The ordinance also sets forth a procedure for all plying for an after-hours permit.
