A former Canton city clerk has qualified to run for a seat on the City Council that voted unanimously to fire her in April.

Susan C. Stanton qualified as a candidate in Ward 2, city officials said. She will challenge incumbent Bill Grant, who also serves as Canton’s mayor pro tem. Stanton had served as city clerk since November 2011.

Also qualifying as candidates in the Nov. 7 general election were council incumbents John Rust in Ward 3 and Sandy McGrew in Ward 1, and Nick Estes, who is seeking Rust’s seat.
