The Canton City Council this week will again consider how to move forward on the northwest Canton fire station project.

In late February, the council approved a deal with Cherokee County under which the city will build the roughly $1 million station and the county will operate it, negating the need for the county to build a new facility, providing enhanced coverage and saving both the city and county money.

The most recent hang-up is whether the council should accept the low bidder for construction after getting widely divergent bids in December, or it should hire an architect to review the bids and specifications. The council is set to hear a recommendation from City Manager Glen Cummins at Thursday night’s meeting.

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners was scheduled to consider the intergovernmental agreement Tuesday night.
