The city of Canton is inviting residents to discuss a planned, $38.2 million expansion of the city wastewater treatment plant at a meeting scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon, Jan. 9, on the third floor of Canton City Hall, 151 Elizabeth St.

Staff will talk about current conditions at the city-owned Canton Wastewater Treatment Plant, 1078 Marietta Highway, and the potential environmental impact of the expansion.

The project is to meet demands of residential and commercial growth, maintain regulatory compliance, address reliability issues, and comply with the goals outlined in a regional wastewater management plan, officials said. Treated effluent will be discharged into the Etowah River, and dewatered sludge, disposed of in a landfill.

Details of the expansion and the new equipment to be installed are available at a city website: http://bit.ly/2oOwx1P
