Friends and family of a slain Canton girl are planning a candlelight vigil Sunday on the first anniversary of the girl’s death.

The life of Jorelys Rivera will be celebrated at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the G. Cecil Pruett Community Center Family YMCA on Waleska Street in Canton.

The 7-year-old girl’s throat was slashed and her body was dumped in a trash compactor at her family’s apartment complex.

Ryan Brunn, a 20-year-old maintenance man at the River Ridge complex, was arrested and later admitted to sexually assaulting and killing Jorelys.

Brunn committed suicide in state prison in January, two days after he pleaded guilty to murder and sexual molestation.
