A coalition of business leaders from across the state paid a visit to a packaging plant in DeKalb County this week, as part of an effort to highlight local manufacturers.

This month, members of the Georgia Manufacturing Alliance are touring the state as part of “Buy From Georgia Month,” focusing on products that people see in stores but might not know are made in Georgia.

On Thursday, the group visited Thermo Pac in the Stone Mountain area. The plant produces single-serve sauce packs, salsa cups and peanut butter and jelly packets for the food service industry, GMA said.

Participants saw how they develop the food and design the small containers.

Thermo Pac also makes ready-to-eat compact meals that can be used by the military or during emergency situations.

“Over 440,000 people are employed in the 10,000 manufacturing facilities in Georgia,” Jason Moss, the CEO of GMA, said in a statement. “Countless jobs are directly impacted as a result of educating consumers about the importance of buying Georgia-made products.”
