An overnight SWAT standoff at a Buckhead apartment ended peacefully when the suspect surrendered to police early Friday.

Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said the incident began about 10 p.m. Thursday after officers “observed a wanted person driving in the area of Peachtree Road and Colonial Homes Drive.”

When officers attempted a traffic stop on Colonial Hills Drive, the suspect, identified as 55-year-old Jesse Choren, fled.

“The driver bailed out of the vehicle a short distance away and officers pursued him on foot and observed him enter an apartment in the 200 block of South Colonial Hills Circle,” Chafee said.

He said Choren refused to come out of the apartment, and officers set up a perimeter and called in the SWAT team.

“The suspect eventually spoke with police and surrendered around 1 a.m.,” Chafee said.

Choren has several warrants out of Florida, but Chafee didn’t have details on those warrants.
