Hope you're enjoying your cloudy, breezy,  mild New Year's Day, but it's time to get out those heavy coats because the coldest temperatures of the season are on the way.

"Things today have been pretty mild, but the bottom will fall out in just a few hours,"  says Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz, who is forecasting a high of 61 Sunday with isolated showers early that will clear and turn colder.

Nitz said a cold front is moving in from the west and "back behind it is drier conditions but much colder conditions."

Monday will be sunny, windy and cold with winds northwest at 15-25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, he said.

Tuesday will feel like winter is here in full force. It will be sunny and very cold with lows in the upper teens to low 20s. The highs won't make it to 40, Nitz said.

"Those gusty northwest winds will continue to blow in colder and colder air," Nitz said.
