The city of Brookhaven has received a Governor’s Office of Highway Safety grant for $64,056.74 to help finance a full-time dedicated safety officer, a community-wide pedestrian safety initiative. The Office of Highway Safety awards the grants to local government agencies which demonstrate a commitment to maintaining safety on all roads and highways
.“We are pleased that this grant will afford us the ability to have an officer on staff that will dedicate their time and expertise to pedestrian safety,” said Brookhaven Police Chief Gary Yandura. Brookhaven’s Police Department has over 70 officers and will use the grant to add one to the traffic enforcement unit.
The grant is renewable on an annual basis.
