Brookhaven Mayor J.Max Davis annouced his resignation June 2 in a letter to constituents.

Davis, whose term was due to end in November, stated he will run for the Georgia House of Representatives seat for District 80, which covers most of Brookhaven, Sandy Springs and Chamblee. The seat became vacant this year and will be filled by a special election on July 14.

“It has been my distinct honor to serve as your Mayor,” Davis stated. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my work in getting our city started. I want to thank our hardworking city manager, dedicated staff and council for their tireless efforts in delivering to Brookhaven taxpayers the best in a new, local government.”

Davis was elected Brookhaven’s first mayor in December 2012, and was involved in many Brookhaven community groups before the city’s incorporation.

Rebecca Chase Williams will serve as mayor pro tem until the election in November, in which the mayor as well as council representatives for city districts 1 and 3 will be decided.
