A damaged pipe was to blame for a spill that sent 1,500 gallons of sewage into a tributary of the Chattahoochee River, officials said.
According to information released by the Gwinnett Department of Water Resources, the spill started Monday morning at a sewer pipe on the 4300 block of Gunnin Road in Peachtree Corners. It took nearly three hours to stop the overflow.
"The main cause was determined to be a damaged sanitary sewage pipe," water resources officials said in a news release.
Workers removed "the buildup of logs and debris" that had damaged the pipe, then repaired it, officials said. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division was notified.
