Convicted killer Brian Nichols escaped the death penalty after a jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

Bodiford had urged the jury to reach a unanimous decision. The jury deadlocked with nine favoring death penalty and three favoring life without parole.

The jury deliberated for four days. On Friday evening, Bodiford gave them two hours to reach a unanimous decision. But the remained deadlocked at 9-3. Justin Greenway comforts his wife Christina Greenway, daughter of slain court reporter Julie Brandau.
