The murder trial of Brian Nichols began Sept. 22, 2008, in Atlanta. Nichols is accused of killing four people and severely beating Deputy Cynthia Hall as he escaped a rape trial in 2005. Deputy Dilcie Thomas testified earlier Thursday that she had asked to help escort Nichols on the morning he attacked another deputy, escaped from a holding cell, and went on the courthouse rampage.
