Several people got a scare with their supper Monday night when the ceiling of the Blu Cantina restaurant in Castleberry Hill started falling.
Tiara James was one of them. "Out of nowhere, the roof collapsed,” she told Channel 2 Action News. “I honestly thought that (the restaurant) was getting shot up, so I was ducking and diving like trying to get over stuff, like is everything OK?"
James was not hurt, but six people were, and at least four were taken to a hospital, Atlanta fire spokesman Cortez Stafford told Channel 2. Most of the injuries were minor.
"One person, a male, was injured more severely than the other individuals,” he said. “That person was conscious and alert, but they did possibly have a head injury."
Adrienne Brown, a spokeswoman for the restaurant, released a statement:
“Our establishment experienced structural damage which resulted in a partial roof collapse. As a result of this damage, 6 people were injured. We will be closed until further notice.”
Fire officials said nearly half of the roof collapsed. Officials believe heavy rain on the flat roof caused the collapse, which happened about 8:40 p.m. There were more than 30 people inside the restaurant at the time, Channel 2 reported.
A city inspector was called to evaluate any further damage at the restaurant, which is in the 200 block of Peters Street, Channel 2 reported.
