The Cherokee County School Board recently recognized several administrators, teachers and students for their achievements: Etowah High School senior Victoria "Tori" Ridgeway achieved a perfect ACT score; CCSD Parent Mentor JoEllen Hancock won the Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership's 2018 Phil Pickens Award; Dana Townsend of Mill Creek Middle School won CCSD 2019 Teacher of the Year; Creekview High School Assistant Principal Jessica Whitley was a finalist for the statewide title of 2019 Georgia Assistant Principal of the Year; CCSD Lead Nurse Gwen Chambers and Arnold Mill Elementary School Nurse Betty Miller were finalists for the March of Dimes 2018 Georgia Nurse of the Year Awards; and Creekview High School teacher Andrea Sheldon was named to Serve on the State School Superintendent's Teacher Advisory Council.

Tessa Ashlyn Welch of Homerville is the recipient of the Fall 2018 President's Award for Academic Excellence for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Valdosta State University.

Elise Young of Lawrenceville recently was awarded a Study Abroad Grant worth $1,000 from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi—the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Young is one of 25 students nationwide to receive the award.

Kevin Colton of Johns Creek was recently named a Schwarzman Scholar. He is currently a Cadet at the US Military Academy in West Point, New York.

Mallika Balakrishnan of Marietta and Dina Eldawy of Atlanta were named 2019 Marshall Scholars by the British Consulate-General in Atlanta.
