A 5-year-old boy pulled from a Clayton County pool on Wednesday has died.

The child’s mother told police her son, who she allowed to sit on the edge of the pool, jumped in the pool with other children at the Pointe Clear Apartment Homes in Jonesboro, police said.

The mother later noticed her child wasn’t around and started looking for him.

She went to her apartment to see if the child was with his older sibling, who had earlier left the pool area, Clayton police Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

When the mother returned to the pool area, she saw someone doing CPR on her son.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:44 p.m. Wednesday.

It was at least the second pool-related death involving a metro Atlanta child since June 13. A Walton County toddler died that day after being found unconscious in his home pool, authorities said.
