A Cobb County woman is accused of stealing nearly $10,000 from a high school booster club while she served as treasurer.

Janis Riley Allen, 42, faces a felony theft by taking charge for allegedly failing to deposit $9,728 from Osborne High School concession stand sales, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the AJC.

The thefts occurred from Aug. 2010 through May while Allen, of a Marietta address, was treasurer of the Cardinal Tip Off Club, according to the Cobb County Sheriff's Office.

Allen allegedly created an accounting ledger that indicated the cash taken in by the booster club was $22,258, the warrant states. But bank records, nightly cash accounting sheets and other receipts show the total money collected was $32,102.

Allen turned herself into police Nov. 9, hours after a warrant was issued for her arrest, and was booked into the Cobb County jail, according to booking records. She was released the following afternoon after posting $20,000 bond.
