The former president of a booster club who is accused of stealing $24,000 turned himself in to Gwinnett County police Friday, Channel 2 Action News reported.
A warrant had been issued for Steven Brindle after officials of the Mountain View Athletic Association told investigators that more than $20,000 in questionable charges had been made using the Dacula league’s debit card. Another $20,000 is unaccounted for, the association said.
The money was intended to be used for uniforms, equipment and other necessities for the children who play at Rabbit Hill Park, Channel 2 said, but police believe Brindle used the funds for personal expenses from August 2012 until February.
“Brindle was the president of the association at the time and the particular card used to make these charges was assigned to him,” Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith told Channel 2.
The questionable purchases included car payments, Kenny Chesney concert tickets, prom dresses, Direct TV and iTunes, the report said.
