Bond denied for driver charged in I-285 pedestrian’s death
The driver accused of striking and killing a pedestrian on the shoulder of I-285 south of Langford Parkway was denied bond today.
Atlanta police said a man was hit by a car Sunday that had pulled into the right southbound emergency lane of the interstate around 4:45 a.m. A passenger in the vehicle received minor injuries and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The alleged driver of the vehicle, Tabatha Williams, 24, was charged with first-degree vehicular homicide, DUI and reckless driving. She was denied bond today and remains in the Fulton County Jail.
The man who was killed was identified as 32-year-old Benjamin Lackings, of New Orleans, the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said. Police do not know why he was on the interstate shoulder.
The investigation is continuing.
